Beads and leather

It's Sunday morning and I have been up since 6:00 AM . In Arizona,  this time of year you need to get up early and do your outside fun. We just went into summertime heat. So this morning Rosie (my furbaby) and I got up and went for a walk. Then we came back and did a little weed pulling in the garden. To all our fans , friends and customers we have some tobacco leather back in our stores. It is that beautiful  deep color of rust that we all love. It looks like this.

This is one of our native flute bags. I added a beaded hummingbird on this one. It also has a shoulder strap so when you go for a hike , go to the beach or whatever it is, you can safely take your flute with you. This flute bag also has a double drawstring for a closure and long double cut fringe off the bottom of the bag.
You can find this bag here.
If you need more details about this bag just click on the above link and it will take you to the bag.
This is a very beautiful, functional way to carry your beautiful flute.
We make these bags custom to fit your flute. You can also get whatever beadwork you would like on the bag. I do many other beadwork designs.
I love beading. I have been beading for around 30 years now. When I first started beading I started making earrings. Oh what fun! All the colors of beads and I had such a passion to learn all the new stitches and put it all together. Then when I discovered how beautiful beads looks on leather well that was it.
I always liked sewing but I have always been attracted to sewing by hand. So most all our bags are hand sewn. We do some small medicine bags with our singer sewing machine.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a look.
You can find more of our flute bags, pipe bags , and cedar bags here.

Fringed black bag with a turtle totem

Good Morning! I hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day weekend.
We are an all handmade shop. We support all handmade artists! So here is a new turtle bag from us at Thunder Rose Leather

This is a front view of this black leather handbag with a beaded turtle totem. This bag would make an awesome everyday bag. It has long cut fringe off the bottom of the bag and a four point braided strap.

This is a side view of this black leather bag. This picture shows the depth of the handbag. This bag also features an extra pocket inside and one on the back of the bag.

This is the back of the leather bag. As you can see our bags are all hand stitched with attention to detail.

This is the beaded turtle rosette that I beaded for this bag. The turquoise blue beads really makes this turtle stand out. I lace around all my bead work designs giving them even more beauty and depth.

GARDENING , LEATHER BAGS AND BEAD WORK

At Thunder Rose Leather John and I have been busy making beautiful custom orders and  doing some gardening in the evening. It doesn't start to get dark now until 7:00 pm so we have the luxury of a long day. It's raining today yea!  The garden is looking good. We planted some really beautiful evergreen shrubs that are good desert plants and promising good shade in the afternoon hot sun. The leaves are red and green.
They are called Red Tip Photinia. They are so pretty! I am planting some purple sunflowers in between this year just for the beauty of all the colors and of course the birds love sunflowers.

BLUE LEATHER BEADED HANDBAG

Good Morning !  We have really been enjoying the springtime weather. The grass is growing tall , the garden is up (the cool weather plants) and the hummingbirds are doing their dance. This has been a good week of inspiration in my new  program of taking some time to do a new ready to ship bag. This week I used some beautiful navy blue soft cowhide leather and was inspired to make a rosette / mandala using emerald green,  silver lined blue , silk green, dark amethyst purple and silk purple beads. I decided to make the braided strap long (55 inches). When I tried it on I loved the length. I have been seeing many women wearing bags long. I must say it felt real comfortable and looked great. If you need the strap to be shorter just ask it is easy for us to adjust. This leather crossbody bag would go great with a long skirt, short skirt or a pair of jeans . It is all purpose adding high fashion and beauty to your day. We all want to look good when we are out on the town. I added long fringe to the leather bag , who doesn't love long fringe. I sure do.Of course I am an older hippie woman with a fancy for native style, and mountain woman style. I mean I have been loving that for a while now. The fun thing about our bags is they can be used for a phone bag, hiking on a trail, horse back riding, shopping whatever is your thing. They are strong durable and quality made. Our leather purses are all handmade and hand stitched with attention to detail. So this is the beautiful .......

This navy blue leather handbag is for sale in my Etsy shop. This crossbody bag measures approximately 9 inches tall , and 7.5 inches wide.

SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT AND THEN SOME

It's a nice warm spring day in Arizona. It's a really quiet and laid back kinda day. Sometimes on Sunday's its like that. Not always but today it is quiet and nice. We have been working on a couple new things this week so I thought I would share stories with you.
I have had this pink and green turtle for awhile trying to figure out what exactly would it like to be on. This was inspired by a mother of a child who was making pow wow regalia. She wanted to buy  three of them from me but ended up taking two. That's okay it gives me a chance to do something different. So I finally came up with an idea. A while back we purchased an off white soft tanned white cowhide that is just fabulous. It feels really good and you know leather, it smells great too! When I did art shows the biggest thing I noticed is how fascinated everyone is with the feel and smell of leather. Well in our shop every time we get another bunch of leather we get the full on experience of the smell and feel of the beautiful leather hides we get. Each one has got its own uniqueness.
When we start a project we  lay the hide out on a really big leather table and see what it has to offer. That is why every piece is different in our made to order shop.
This is our leather table with a hide stretched out.
Anyway I thought it would be fun to show you our leather table. It is awesome.
Anyway this is how it all starts.
Of course I have my beading table with all my cases of beads in my cave. (special place to bead)
Then you have my walls of beads.

We have a bead  and leather scrap store on Etsy. So I have a lot of beads and a lot  of scrap leather.
We don't always have a lot of scraps and leather laces in the store but we would gladly sell you some if you contact us.
We have plenty of scraps......For sure!
Well about that pink turtle, I made it a home and this is what it looks like......

I almost always bead in rainbow colors or fire colors so this was real different for me but it turned out real nice. I have learned in the past 25 years of beading the phrase different strokes for different folks is so very true. So I do try to mix it up a bit.
You can find this bag in our Etsy store.
This bag SOLD! Soon after my blog post. If you need something like this or even different contact me. I would be happy to help you.
Thanks for stopping by!
Blessing to you on this fine Sunday evening!
Debbie
